Job Description

Located at the southern tip of the San Francisco Bay, Milpitas is a progressive community that is an integral part of the Silicon Valley. With a diverse resident population of 80,430, the City of Milpitas sees each of the approximate 432 full-time equivalent employees as committed to accomplishing the community’s vision by providing fiscally sound, superior services. The ideal candidate will have extensive previous experience in public sector land use planning, be well organized, innovative, and highly resourceful, with strong interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader that consistently demonstrates the ability to collaborate, to create and maintain a positive work environment, and to find creative solutions to development issues.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

At a minimum, candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, City and Regional Planning, Architecture, Urban Design, or a related field. Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners is highly desirable. Five years of increasingly responsible experience in public or private sector planning, with at least two years of supervisory experience, is required. A Master’s Degree may be substituted for two years of professional experience. The annual salary range for the Principal Planner is $131,775.02 up to $159,599.96; placement within this range is dependent upon qualification and experience.
