Bikable Santa Monica

Come experience firsthand how Santa Monica integrates Bicycling into its high traffic downtown

The city of Santa Monica has invested significantly to  develop its bike infrastructure over the last few years.  During  this APA sponsored event we will ride our bikes while hearing about the effectiveness of these improvements, and the role of active transportation in City Planning (come via the Expo Line with your bike, where we will meet adjacent the Bike Share Station at the corner of 4th Street and Colorado Blvd).

Bring your bike, or rent a bike for $20, plus handling fee

Some of the bike services we will experience first-hand include:  

    • Santa Monica Expo line station (bike share)

    • Santa Monica Bike Center
    • Colorado Esplanade (two-way cycletrack)
    • 4th Court (bike sharrows)
    • Broadway (bike lanes)
    • 11th/Broadway, Michigan Avenue Neighborhood Greenway (bike boxes)
    • Pico Blvd (center-running cycle track)
    • 6th Street to the Ocean Park Blvd (green streets project)
    • Main Street Farmers Market (bike valet)
    • Beachside bike campus

Jason Kligier: Bicycle Program Coordinator for the City of Santa Monica, working to improve cycling conditions through infrastructure, programming and policy. He is currently working on the City’s Vision Zero Action Plan and several capital projects. He holds a Master of Urban & Regional Planning from UCLA. Kyle Kozar: Bike Share Coordinator for the City of Santa Monica. He currently oversees the successful implementation, expansion, and operation of the Bike Share program, as well as manages other bicycle and pedestrian improvement projects throughout the city. Kyle holds a Master’s in City and Regional Planning from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Cynthia Rose: Director of Santa Monica Spoke, a non-profit focused on education and collaborations to establish policy and improve infrastructure for safer walking and biking as a means for creating more sustainable and healthy communities. She sits on the boards of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, California Bicycle Coalition and is a certified cycling instructor with the League of American Bicyclists currently working on Santa Monica’s SRTS programing.Nate Cherry: Nate is the Planning and Urban Design Director for CallisonRTKL and a Programs Committee Member for APA LA Chapter.
