Job Description
DESCRIPTION
The Department of Development Services is seeking an Administrative Intern (Non-Career) to gain practical experience in a municipal planning environment. The Administrative Intern will be assigned to the Planning Bureau, Current Planning Division and would be exposed to all aspects of the development review process.
This is an unclassified (Non-Civil Service) position. Non-Career positions typically average 27 hours per week; up to a total of 1404 hours in a year.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Conducts minor plan-check, site plan review, landscape (MWELO) and signage permit requests;
- Reviews City processes for permits and development review and compares those findings to comparative cities;
- Conducts zoning research including permit histories, records review, and plan comparisons;
- Assists with the digitizing of codes and plans;
- Files documents and archives data;
- Responds to general queries from the public, both in person and over the phone;
- Organizes community and Bureau meetings;
- Prepares PowerPoint and other visual materials to illustrate planning concepts and information;
- Provides administrative assistance to the planning staff and other duties as assigned.
Required Experience / Skills / Education
REQUIREMENTS TO FILE
Education and Experience:
Equivalent to high school graduation and must be currently enrolled in a college or university or other continued educational program, including vocational or certified training programs.
Knowledge of:
- Modern English usage.
- Personal computers and related software applications.
Skill and Ability to:
- Compile, review and evaluate data.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
