Under the general direction of the Office Chief of Multimodal Transportation Planning, a Supervising Transportation Planner in District 6, the Senior Transportation Planner is responsible for coordinating the State, Federal and Regional Planning process that result in coordinated transportation plans, programs, actions, and policies affecting the State’s transportation system. The Senior Transportation Planner is responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary team and acts as the single point of contact with local and partner agencies and is responsible for the development and management of long-range system and regional planning products. As the District liaison for the five Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) the Senior Transportation Planner monitors the regional transportation planning process through the Overall Work Program (OWP) and Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) and coordinates the administration and funding of these documents. The Senior Transportation Planner is responsible for the administration of the Federal Consolidated Planning Grant (CPG), the Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant Program and California Transportation Plan (CTP) coordination. The incumbent will be required to have significant written and verbal communication, often with short deadlines. The position has extensive responsibility to regularly interact and coordinate with District and Headquarters managers. The duties require communication, partnership, and strategic thinking skills as well as a deep commitment to the Department’s strategic vision, mission, values and goals, to provide excellent customer service and advance equity through all efforts. The desired outcome is providing an accessible multi-modal network of travel options that enrich all communities.
