Job Description

Permitting Coordinator

Burns & Bouchard is a boutique development, planning and government affairs firm specializing in creative solutions to today’s complex urban planning and municipal issues. We assist developers across the spectrum from Fairfield Residential, Hines, Sares Regis, Related Companies of California, and Douglas Emmett, to Zara, Voo Doo Doughnuts, and Godspeed Bagels, to Television City Studios, Radford Studio Center, and Fox Future with all aspects of the development process. We focus on government affairs, community relations, entitlement approvals, permit processing and project/construction management. Our knowledge of commercial, residential and institutional development spans from tenant improvements and permitting to midsize remodels to ground-up construction of all sizes including full-scale master planning efforts.

We are currently seeking permit expeditors and project managers ready to make an immediate impact. The ideal candidate will plan, manage and execute strategies for obtaining building permits and the timely completion of other related assignments, including but not limited to tracking and managing building permit submittals/resubmittals, plan check corrections and interdepartmental clearances. Responsibilities will include coordination of day-to-day operations with developers, architects, engineers, city/county/state agency staff and all other relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications

Applicant must be highly motivated, with a strong work ethic, and must possess:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in real estate, construction management, engineering, architecture or an associated field
  • 1-5 years of internship or work experience in a relevant field
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read and understand architectural, structural, civil, and landscape plans and calculations
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Intellectual curiosity and authentic desire to learn all aspects of building permit expediting and entitlements, permitting and project management
  • Ability and willingness to engage all relevant stakeholders with confidence and charisma, with the ultimate goal of obtaining all necessary regulatory approvals
  • Ability to think and engage flexibly and work effectively as part of a team. Must possess an attitude that no job is too small or insignificant; and no challenge is too daunting. Ideal candidate must be willing to face all challenges with a positive, can-do attitude and must possess an ability to negotiate effectively, even in the face of difficult circumstances and/or recalcitrant individuals

Responsibilities

As a member of the Burns & Bouchard team the Permitting Coordinator will:

  • Plan, manage and execute strategies for tracking and obtaining building permits and other regulatory approvals from local, county and state agencies
  • Demonstrate a strong ability to interface effectively with city officials, architects, engineers, contractors, developers, property owners, neighbors and neighborhood council members
  • Communicate building permit requirements to property owners, members of the project team and all relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain strict timelines and operational control of all submittals, plan check verifications and project-deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to develop and grow a strong knowledge of constantly changing local regulatory approval processes and requirements
  • Understand theory, background and intent behind regulatory requirements and how they affect a potential construction project
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time while providing superior client service
  • Ability and willingness to think outside the box and craft creative solutions to rapidly evolving challenges
  • Be highly mobile. Willingness to spend large portions of day at government buildings, construction sites, client offices and locations away from home office, while still maintaining operational control of work product

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $70,000-$100,000
