APA Los Angeles and Los Angeles County Chief Sustainability Office Present: OurCounty- LA County’s Sustainability Plan
May 23, 2019  from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM
BuroHappold Engineering, 800 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA

Los Angeles County has 88 incorporated cities and 10 million residents, which makes crafting a comprehensive countywide sustainability plan challenging.  On April 5th, L.A. County officials released OurCounty, a draft regional sustainability plan.  OurCounty is the product of research and listening to the input provided at many workshops held over the past year to solicit solutions.  On May 23, APA Los Angeles and LA County are hosting a presentation and discussion about OurCounty’s strategies for creating a resilient, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable Los Angeles.   The presentation will focus on topics that are of interest to planners,  but will be open to the general public. The comment period ends on May 24.

Presenter Kristen Torres Pawling is the Sustainability Program Director in Los Angeles County Chief Sustainability Office, which provides regional policy leadership on equity, economy, and environment. Her issue areas include climate, housing, land use, transportation, and public health. Presenter Christopher Rhie has extensive experience with the development of sustainability and climate action plans for local governments, as well as colleges and universities across the United States.  His recent projects include the comprehensive land use and climate action plans for the City of Cambridge (MA), New York City’s Roadmap to 80×50, the Los Angeles County Sustainability Plan, and Design Sprints on Connected and Autonomous Vehicles in Boston and Los Angeles.

The BuroHappold Engineering offices are conveniently located in DTLA near the 7th Street Metro for access to Metro’s Red, Blue, Purple and Expo lines.  The location is also close to a number of bus lines.
