Public space has long been key for community planning, as a place for community activity, for planners and other public officials to collaborate with the community, and for the community to make their voices heard. The COVID-19 pandemic and current social distancing have changed how we interact socially and, with that, our use of public space. As communication and dissemination of information moves further into the digital sphere, how does this impact public space planning and the equitable access to public space? How can digital public spaces be leveraged for organizing and demonstrating for social, racial, and economic justice? What can even be considered a digital public space? Join APA Los Angeles for When Everything Breaks No. 4 on August 19th to hear our panelists discuss these and other important considerations for digital public space. This free event will feature a conversation about how COVID-19 responses can factor equity into the use of digital public space. Our panel will include Arthi Varma, Deputy Director of Citywide Policy Planning, City of Los Angeles Department of City Planning; La Mikia Castillo, Founder & Principal, Castillo Consulting Partners; and Shannon Davis, Co-Director and Civic Technology guru, Here LA.
