The current election cycle has brought planning to the forefront of public debate in Los Angeles, with the Build Better LA, Neighborhood Integrity, and Land Use Voter Empowerment initiatives each proposing to guide land use and development with the hand of the electorate. Other cities will be making similar decisions on issues large and small.
From Proposition U in Los Angeles to Ventura’s SOAR initiatives, voters in California have gone to the ballot box on land use questions many times. For planners, such initiatives represent not just policy decisions, but complications to their work – and to some, a threat to the very practice of professional planning.
Join APA Los Angeles for a thoughtful discussion of the impacts of proposed and passed land use measures, and the forms they have taken over the years and across the state. Our guests include:

Parking/Transit Information: Transit is available via the Red Line Civic Center/Grand Park Station, Gold Line Little Tokyo Station and Metro bus lines. Public parking is available in Little Tokyo garages. The underground garage at 140 N. Judge John Aiso St. offers a $3 flat rate after 5 PM.
