Dialogo Series and #iamplanning Present: Investment without Displacement: The Complexities of Planning in Diverse Communities
August 31, 2016  at 6:00 PM Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza Community Room: Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza Community Room

6:00 PM – 8:30 PM
FREE RSVP Requested

Co-presented by APA’s Young & Emerging Planning Professionals, Latinos and Planning, and the Urban Rising Group

As development and investment spreads throughout Los Angeles, current housing and economic conditions have impacted communities across the city. As stakeholders in South Los Angeles begin to see development in their communities, the urgency of these matters has prompted community members, planners and activists to organize and collectively seek solutions, resources and tools to mitigate the impacts of economic injustice.

The purpose of this panel/workshop, part of APA Los Angeles’ Dialogo series, is to continue the discussion on the following three important topics in relation to gentrification and the South Los Angeles Community: housing, transportation policy, and economic development; and provide community planners, members and activists with tools to combat gentrification and other impacts of economic injustice in South Los Angeles.

The panel will include the following experts:

  • Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Eighth Council District
  • Cynthia Strathmann PhD. – Executive Director, SAJE
  • Claudia Monterrosa – Director, Public Policy & Research, Los Angeles Housing + Community Investment Department
  • Lakisha Hull – Planner, Department of City Planning, City of Los Angeles

The event is free, but be sure to RSVP at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2590139.
