Overview
Metro’s First/Last Mile group is a new unit within the Countywide Planning and Development department and provides leadership for the planning and implementation of a regional transportation system that supports mobility, a cleaner environment and a thriving economy. The First/Last Mile program is the first of its kind for a major transportation agency and represents Metro’s commitment to improve safety, livability, and access to transit.
Job Description
The internship is a unique opportunity to help shape the implementation of the First/Last Mile program. Under general supervision, the intern will assist in delivering a wide variety of planning activities to support Metro’s First/Last Mile group. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in active transportation planning and public service. Anticipated hours for the position are 15 to 20 hours per week for a 6-month minimum commitment. The start date is flexible dependent on availability.
Example Duties
The intern may be assigned to:
- Provide research for projects
- Write and edit informational materials
- Develop web content and other communication materials
- Coordinate logistics for and attend public meetings
- Coordinate grant materials
- Synthesize data into clear and concise reports and graphics
Required Experience / Skills / Education
- Current college or graduate student, graduate student preferred
- Passionate about first/last mile planning, transit, complete streets, and active transportation
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented
- Knowledge of urban planning principles and public engagement is desirable.
