Located in the center of one of the world’s greatest concentrations of creative arts and entertainment districts, West Hollywood is an exciting and dynamic City with issues and policies on the cutting edge of municipal government in California and the nation. It is known for its iconic destinations such as The Sunset Strip and historic Route 66, and the city’s thriving creative and entertainment communities set trends in design, dining, music, fashion, art, and architecture.
As a Senior Planner at the City of West Hollywood you will have the opportunity to work on a broad range of projects including: new hotels on the Sunset Strip, mixed-use projects on Santa Monica Boulevard, and cutting edge design showrooms on Melrose Avenue. This position provides supervision and guidance to Assistant and Associate Planners. The ability to lead a team of Planning professionals responsible for complex projects is vital for success in this position. The Senior Planner manages large, complex, current planning projects, including: reviewing and processing current and legislative projects and major and minor permits and variances; conducting research and gathering information to determine compliance with ordinances and regulations. This position also requires a strong understanding of CEQA requirements. Political sensitivity and an understanding of the importance of protecting the quality of life for our residents while balancing the needs of the business community and representing the values of the City is also essential.
Required Experience / Skills / Education
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field; Master’s degree in related field is preferable; and,
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
