Job Description
The City and County of Denver’s Community Planning and Development Department (CPD) is seeking highly motivated and creative individuals to fill a full-time Associate City Planner position in our Planning Services Division’s Citywide Planning and Implementation team, with a focus on regulatory work.
The position offers the opportunity to participate on interdisciplinary teams for a variety of exciting and complex projects to implement Denver’s new Comprehensive Plan 2040 and Blueprint Denver.
Key responsibilities include:
- Research and analysis to support map amendments (rezonings)
- Research and analysis to support text amendments to the Denver Zoning Code
- Preparing draft text, maps, graphics, and presentations
- Reviewing comprehensive sign plan applications
- Preparation and support for internal and external stakeholder work sessions
- Developing illustrations and graphics to support planning projects
- Collecting and analyzing socioeconomic, land use, transportation and demographic data for planning and regulatory projects
Required Experience / Skills / Education
Our ideal candidate has:
- Experience working with zoning codes and other regulatory tools/codes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience supporting interdisciplinary teams
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Strong attention to detail and highly organized
- Proficient with Spanish Language Skills – Speaking, reading and writing
- Committed to integrating equity into planning

- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in City or Regional Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Historic Preservation, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Three (3) years of professional planning experience.
- Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
- License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
