Vice Director for Administration

Director of Planning

Utah Transit Authority / Salt Lake City, Utah
Posted on: June 23, 2021

Application Deadline: First review of applications: July 19, 2021

Job Description

Utah Transit Authority
Director of Planning
Salary: Competitive and Negotiable
Initial Filing Date: Monday, July 19, 2021

Utah Transit Authority provides integrated mobility solutions to service life’s connections, improve public health and enhance quality of life.

The Director of Planning plays a critical role in getting things done at UTA. This is a senior-level position reporting to the Chief Planning & Engagement Officer and directs the strategic planning for regional transportation goals, service planning for the agency, and partners with external organizations in the
metropolitan transportation planning process.

The next Director of Planning will lead a dynamic and talented team of planning professionals who are passionate about public transit and transportation equity. The Director will embrace that strength and harness it into a solid management framework to empower staff in every facet of their work. Specific technical expertise in transit planning or transportation engineering isn’t absolutely necessary; rather, it is more critical to have the ability to think strategically about transit as a necessary function of the public right-of-way and to work with individual cities, towns, and stakeholders to make transit a meaningful part of the community. Someone familiar with both urban and rural planning is ideal as large sections of UTA’s service area are still quite isolated and car dependent. A collaborative background working with metropolitan planning organizations will be highly desirable.
