Job Description

Buro Happold is focused on shaping the cities and built environment of the future. From visioning to implementation, we work alongside our clients to develop tailor-made and highly effective solutions, providing expertise in policy design, sustainability and resilience, infrastructure, land use, governance, and operations. We take an interdisciplinary approach to each project, using data analytics, evidence-based planning, and stakeholder engagement to bring new ideas, critical thinking, leadership, facilitation skills and an understanding of what it takes for cities today to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

We are looking for a full-time candidate to join our Cities Consulting team, based in Los Angeles. The focus will be serving as a project lead, managing resilience and sustainability projects as part of our Climate Strategy practice. Projects are anticipated to be a mix of strategic planning, master planning, and technical studies, ranging across different scales, from metropolitan regions and cities to site planning. This role is to lead projects, managing teams and overseeing the delivery of high-quality materials to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage internal teams and external sub consultants to complete complex planning, engineering, and policy advisory assignments
  • Manage projects, including developing project work plans, scopes, timelines, costing, and specific analyses to be completed
  • Research and provide direction in development of policy, program, and design recommendations
  • Oversee creation of, or personally create and deliver reports, presentations, models, and other deliverables for key stakeholders
  • Build and maintain relationships with governmental and quasi-governmental entities, private sector clients, civic and community organizations, cultural and professional organizations, and advocacy groups
  • Facilitate workshops with expert panels around sustainability, resilience, and planning projects
  • Provide overall guidance and management of junior staff
  • Participate in local Professional Associations

Required Experience / Skills / Education

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree, with Master’s degree preferred, in Sustainability, Civil/ Environmental/ Mechanical/ Electrical and Industrial Engineering, Urban Planning, Public Policy, or a related subject.
  • Minimum 6-10 years’ experience in a climate-, resilience- or sustainability-related field.
  • Project management experience, with experience assembling project budgets and schedules, manage multiple projects against tight timelines, and have a proactive and collaborative style
  • Experience working on large scale, multi-disciplinary projects and ability to communicate and interact comfortably with a range of built environment professionals such as engineers, planners, engineers, policy officials, etc.
  • PMP certification a plus

  • Enjoy working with diverse personalities (i.e. – technical and non-technical individuals)
