The Opportunity

If you are looking to effect change through research and consulting and if you have experience in community assessment, program evaluation and planning, and skills training, we encourage you to explore our Participatory Action Research (PAR) Consultant role within the Justice Practice. At Resource Development Associates (RDA), Consultants work as members of project teams on a wide variety of issues including, but not limited to, juvenile and criminal justice, mental health, social services, workforce development, community health, and other disciplines. For this opportunity, successful experience training and leading youth through PAR projects is preferred, along with a fluency or interest in juvenile justice. The Consultant position is intermediate level on our consulting career path and can lead to other levels of employment. Senior Consultants will also be considered for this position and will have greater responsibilities.

About RDA

For more than 35 years, RDA has provided consultation to public, private, and social sector organizations working across the public safety net system to address persistent social, health, and economic problems. Our services include research, assessment, planning, grant writing, organizational development, training and coaching, facilitation, data system development, and evaluation. We believe in working collaboratively with one another and with our clients and, as lifelong learners, we believe that people and organizations can grow and change.

What You’ll Achieve in Your First Year

As a Consultant, you’ll be at the center of our multidisciplinary teams, employing your analytical and creative thinking skills to deliver innovative and meaningful results for our clients. For this opportunity, you’ll primarily work on a Los Angeles-based PAR project in juvenile justice, collaborating with others who bring different backgrounds and skillsets. You’ll guide system-impacted youth in understanding social impact research, lead them in creating and deploying data collection tools that garner meaningful information, and co-analyze data to inform improvement of youth diversion services in their communities. You will also be called upon to bring your qualitative research and stakeholder facilitation skills to our other, non-PAR projects. Every day and every project are different, and we are constantly learning, but here is a sample of what you can expect to experience and accomplish in your first year:

Turn Research into Meaningful Insights and Solutions

  • Design and implement a PAR evaluation plan; includes recruiting and training youth researchers in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting evaluation data
  • Lead qualitative data collection and analysis, spearheading survey design, focus group engagement, and informant interviews
  • Draft evaluation reports, strategic plans, and/or need assessments that are responsive to clients’ needs and goals and presents recommendations that help them shift from research to action

Collaborate with and Advise Clients and Their Stakeholders

  • Work directly with RDA clients to provide support and develop collaborative working relationships
  • Co-facilitate stakeholder work sessions and public meetings

Support RDA’s Organizational and Team Development

  • Work as a team member with other staff on multiple projects and efforts; mentor and train peers and junior staff

What You’ll Bring to RDA

  • Track record of being a quick learner and self-directed team player
  • Demonstrated experience training and guiding youth
  • Experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse communities, especially system-impacted youth
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Commitment to social and economic justice
  • 2-5 years conducting PAR, evaluation, or other qualitative social impact research, analysis, and reporting for a variety of audiences
  • Advanced degree preferred in criminology, public policy, social sciences, organizational development, public health, or related field; additional work experience may substitute
  • Nice to have: descriptive statistic, multilingual skills

Benefits of Working at RDA

  • Dynamic and collaborative workplace
  • Family-friendly environment with flexible schedules
  • 100% RDA-sponsored health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance for employees
  • 401k, with RDA discretionary match after 2 years
  • Pre-tax flexible spending accounts for medical, dependent care, transit, and parking expenses
  • Individual stipends for professional development
  • Access to discounted retail products and services

Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion
