Job Description

The Assistant Planner is a Non-Represented Professional/Supervisory position responsible for conducting planning research and analysis in current or advanced planning projects, which will require the knowledge and application of fundamental planning principles. The Assistant Planner will work under specific direction in the preparation of planning studies and reports on routine current planning projects, as well as conduct research in the preparation of ordinances and policy memos. The Assistant Planner will complete staff reports and presentations on such projects and present findings to the Development Review Committee and Planning Commission.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

A qualified incumbent will possess the equivalent of six (6) months of experience involving professional public planning and zoning work; a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major study in planning or a related field considered useful in City planning work; and a High School diploma or GED.  Internships or temporary assignments with public agencies or private planning firms may be considered as part of required college coursework or experience.

Based on the qualifications from this recruitment’s applicant pool, the City will exercise its discretion to determine the weight of testing (100%, pass/fail, or a conversion 40%-60%). Testing may include a written, interview, and/or assessment examination. Applicants will receive notification regarding recruitment status within three (3) weeks of final filing date.
