A Day in the Life of a Senior Planner
As a Senior Planner, you develop relationships with clients, mentor others, and lead exciting and challenging projects throughout the Southern California Region, while also supporting projects across our North American offices. You will lead teams from a variety of disciplines; integrating input from a broad range of stakeholders to create award-winning plans and programs that build momentum toward positive change in communities and lead directly to implementation.
Our projects are at all different scales, from national pedestrian and bicycle planning and design guidance for the Federal Highway Administration to State DOT and City Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plans. We work on multimodal corridor studies, Vision Zero, Safe Routes to School Plans and Programs, new mobility and curbside management, trails and greenways, complete streets, and Urban Street Design Guidelines and we push ourselves and our clients to proactively think about equity every step of the way.
Work Schedule for a Senior Planner
This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. Our office opened in 2018 and is located in downtown Los Angeles within the Financial District and is a short walk to all of the major rapid transit lines and walking distance to the 7th Street Metro Center and Metro Bike Share.

Required Experience / Skills / Education
Qualifications of a Senior Planner
· At least 10 years of active transportation, planning, urban design, or other related experience (consulting experience is preferred)
· Strong writing skills and experience working as the primary author for planning documents
· Demonstrated success managing large, complex transportation projects; overseeing parallel tracks of work by staff teams, consultants and subconsultants; maintaining high levels of client satisfaction on challenging projects; and managing schedules and budgets.
· The motivation to identify and pursue business development opportunities for a growing office
· The ability to train and mentor other staff
· Working knowledge of GIS and Adobe Creative Suite are desirable
It would be nice if you have:
· Fluency in Spanish
· A master’s degree in transportation or urban planning, landscape architecture, urban design, or related field
· Experience with managing transportation planning and/or engineering projects
· Experience in the various stages of marketing, including business development, proposal strategy and writing, and interviewing
· A working knowledge of GIS software (ArcGIS or QGIS) and Adobe Creative Suites Cloud apps (Illustrator and InDesign)
· Participated in industry events and are active in local professional organizations

· You have an ability to manage corridor and site-specific studies that balance a deep understanding of the planning context with key insights gained from a variety of analyses
· You have a strong working knowledge of the Southern California region’s geography, agencies, and political landscape.
· You’re passionate about contributing to greater Los Angeles’s future as a more accessible and equitable region
· You enjoy working on a variety of project types and leading teams towards successful outcomes
· You enjoy staying on the cutting edge in a rapidly changing field, including current research, pushing to find new and better ways to think about and incorporate equity in decision-making, and staying abreast of emerging technologies in areas such as online mapping, mobile data collection, and project management.
· Build relationships and bring enthusiasm to exciting projects
