Job Description

Los Altos is a diverse and highly educated community. Residents have a long tradition of volunteerism, with many actively involved in City government and other community service organizations. Tree-lined streets and a small- village atmosphere characterize Los Altos, which is located in the heart of Silicon Valley. The City is seeking a progressive planning professional who can break with tradition and bring innovative ideas to the Development Services Department and Planning discipline. The Planning Manager will be a service-minded individual with the ability to understand the “big picture”. The Planning Manager will also have a solution-oriented approach to planning and development. Qualified candidates possess a Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning, architecture, civil engineering, or a closely related field, and five (5) years of directly related professional urban planning experience; and two (2) years progressively responsible supervisory experience involving interpretation and application of planning and zoning codes and regulations. Experience conducting electronic plan review is required. Possession of a Master’s Degree in one of the specified fields is desirable but not required. The annual salary range for the Planning Manager is $145,505 to $176,862; placement within this range is dependent upon qualifications.
