Vice Director for Administration

Assistant Planners/Associate Planners

City of Ventura / Ventura, CA
Posted on: October 20, 2022

Application Deadline: November 2, 2022

Job Description

The City of Ventura is hiring! The City of Ventura Community Development Department is looking for two (2) Assistant Planners/Associate Planners to join the Planning Division. If you are a candidate who can utilize your advanced communication skills to work with the public, commanding attention that creates aligned and sustained motion on key projects, we are looking for you! New team members will utilize their intellect to identify neighborhood issues that can be mitigated through better planning and engagement strategies to promote economic development and land use, meeting the common goals of the community.

Reporting to the Principal Planner, the Assistant/Associate Planners will work in a team to assist citizens of the City of Ventura. These planners are responsible for professional planning work involving land use planning, environmental analysis, historic preservation, design review, public policy and ordinance development, economic development, green technology in economic development, CDBG/HOME program implementation, or related areas. The Assistant/Associate Planners operate with less immediate supervision in the preparation of specific reports and plans, allowing for the opportunity for independent judgment in planning work, analysis of municipal code and general plan policies, and making technical determinations.

We are looking for candidates who can:

• use creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve less well-defined practical problems
