About the Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity for full-time Senior Planner to join our team in Millbrae, San Mateo County.

Your key responsibilities are:

  • Managing highly complex projects on a wide range of current and advance planning topics such as mixed-use developments, implementing and updating the City’s Specific Plans
  • Researching and preparing complex reports regarding long-range planning
    policy topics, including but not limited to, General Plan, Specific Plan,
    municipal code amendments, rezoning requests, and environmental review
  • Making presentations to the City Council, Planning Commission, community groups, and outside agencies
  • Participating in the review of complex development proposals for conformance to City standards
  • Resolving disputes between the City, developers, and property owners
  • Building effective working relationships with other City departments, outside agencies, and consultants
  • Participating in the development and implementation of the City’s planning policies, and assisting or leading improvements in planning procedures and related information systems
  • Providing lead direction to subordinate professional, technical, and clerical
    staff
  • Training assigned staff in areas of work of planning methods, procedures,
    and techniques
  • Occasional evening and weekend work will be required

More About You

Education: Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in city or regional planning, urban planning, public policy, or a closely related field. Master’s degree in a related field is highly desirable.

Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly professional work experience in municipal planning. Two (2) years of experience can be substituted by a Master’s degree.

Licenses: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record

The following knowledge and abilities will also be essential:

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and trends of municipal planning, urban
    design, and zoning
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to land use and zoning,
    including environmental laws, regulations, and review processes.
  • Reading and interpreting architectural and engineering plans and
    specifications.
  • Effective methods and practices of lead supervision.
  • Prepare written reports and oral presentations; make effective presentations
    in public meetings in a clear and concise manner;
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply technical documents, plans designs, laws,
    codes and policies and explain information to various audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.

About the Benefits

  • 10 days (80 hours) national holidays observed per year
