Job Description
Approx. 25 to 30 hours per week
Hourly/Part-Time/At-Will Position
Under general supervision, provides information regarding local and state land use regulations; reviews and processes planning related documents; performs research and analysis; prepares complex technical reports; provides assistance at the public counter; and provides administrative support.
Typical Duties Performed

- Assists the public, property owners and business owners by providing accurate information regarding local and state Land Use Codes and Regulations.
- Reviews and processes various land use application submittals.
- Prepares and disseminates public notices.
- Prepares and conducts field surveys and field inspections.
- Reviews plans and blueprints for compliance with development standards.
- Conducts research, analyzes data, and prepares and presents technical reports.
- Provides procedural information at the public counter.
- Prepares maps and graphics for reports and presentations.
- Assists in filing and record keeping activities of the Planning and Building Divisions.
- Responds to public inquiries in person, by telephone and by email regarding zoning, land use and other development matters.
- Adheres to City and departmental policies; performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of: Planning terminology and basic fundamentals of planning and drafting techniques; practices and principles of city planning in conjunction with civil engineering and architecture; Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as experience working with database programs; and general understanding of municipal government operations.
Ability to: Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; review, interpret, and implement local and state Land Use Regulations; research, analyze, prepare, and present technical reports; review, interpret and provide comments on planning-related maps, graphs, charts, blueprints, and real property documents; provide excellent customer service in person, by telephone and by email; and work dayshifts Monday through Friday and evenings as needed.
Required Experience / Skills / Education
Experience: One year of experience in a planning, engineering or building department or related environment is required.
Education: Graduation from high school or the equivalent and advanced college level coursework in Urban Planning, Architecture, Urban/Environmental Studies, Civil Engineering or closely related field is required. A bachelor’s degree in these fields of study is desirable.
