Job Description

The City of Pasadena’s Economic Development Division under the City Manager’s Office is seeking an experience and strategic Project Manager to join our World Class City. The Project manager plans, coordinates, and implements development/redevelopment projects; consults with technical staff on priorities and schedules; and establishes and maintains liaison with owner participants, citizens, and developers. This position performs professional economic development functions to create strategies that promote business growth, job development, and business relocation and retention.

The ideal candidate is energetic, customer focused, detail-oriented, creative and strategic, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will have strong oral and written communications skills to present information to a variety of audiences, and produce  written work that is captivating and compelling. This role is ideal for a technology savvy project manager with social media and marketing experience.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

  • Directs and monitors activities such as economic development within assigned project areas; visits sites to inspect contracts in progress; reviews contracts and progress reports; maintains appropriate documentation.
  • Coordinates projects with a variety of staff, departments and organizations; directs and supervises staff in the completion of projects.
  • Negotiates and oversees joint public and private real estate development programs, establishes goals, objectives, budgets, and schedules consistent with departmental plans and policies.
  • Secures technical or professional services and maintains effective community participation and collaboration on assigned projects.
  • Prepares and presents reports to City Council, boards, commissions, and committees.
  • Identifies and develops innovative financing methods and resources.
  • Develops creative business recruitment and retention marketing strategies using social media, brochures, ads, etc.
  • Advises and recommends execution of actions on all aspects of assigned projects; remains current on applicable State legislation/policies, development, planning and economic development trends.
  • Represents the department at various public meetings; meets with a variety of federal, state and private organizations to discuss/negotiate projects.
  • Acts as liaison with residents, business/property owners, Business Improvement Districts, consultants, developers, lenders, public agencies, and other City staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in economic development, redevelopment, real estate development, or urban planning, business or public administration, economics, or related field.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in economic development, redevelopment, real estate development, or urban planning, including two years in a lead analytical, managerial, or supervisory role.
  • Individuals with public sector project management experience will be deemed most qualified.

There is currently one vacancy in the Economic Development Division of the City Manager’s Office. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future.

Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one year probationary work period.
