Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. 

Under the direction of the Chief, Office of Local Assistance you will have primary responsibility for the administration and coordination for Federal and State programs with local agencies for various transportation facilities and related activities. Possession of a valid California Driver’s License is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.

Implement and manage individual projects for Federal and State approval of funding. Provide guidance to representatives of local agencies, planning organizations (MPO’s and RTPA’s), and other affected agencies and organizations with the programming and delivery of Federal and State funded projects. This includes advising of Federal and State policy and procedures, assisting in managing federal funding programs, reviewing and approving Federal authorization and State allocation funding requests for all phases of a project (PE, R/W, and Construction/Construction Engineering), processing awards and reports of expenditure, performing project close-out reviews and assist the agencies to ensure that the project has met all federal and state requirements.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

Minimum Qualifications

Either I

Graduation from a four-year curriculum in civil engineering accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology. (Registration as a senior in such a curriculum will admit an applicant to the competition, but she/he must produce evidence of graduation before she/he will be considered eligible for appointment.) (Possession of a valid certificate as an Engineer-in- Training issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, or issued by another jurisdiction and accepted by the California Board in lieu of the first division of the examination as an engineer may be substituted for the required education.)

Or II

Possession of equivalent qualifications may be demonstrated by graduation from an engineering curriculum which includes the basic engineering courses normally covered in a standard four-year engineering curriculum, and by qualifying in a written examination covering basic engineering. (Registration as a senior in such a curriculum will admit an applicant to the qualifying examination, but she/he must produce evidence of graduation before she/he will be considered eligible for appointment.)

Or III

A master’s or doctorate degree in a civil engineering curriculum from a college or university that has a baccalaureate degree program in a civil engineering curriculum which is accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering Technology (ABET). (Registration as a candidate in such a curriculum will admit an applicant to the competition but she/he must produce evidence of graduation before she/he will be considered eligible for appointment.)

Transportation Engineer (Civil) Exam

Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Civil in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility. Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineer, Civil Exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g. transfer, permissive reinstatement or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
