The City of Laguna Beach is excited to announce that we are accepting applications for the position of Planning Technician, Assistant Planner, and Associate Planner in the Community Development Department (exact level to be determined during selection process and dependent on experience and qualifications).

What you’ll do: We are looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and customer service oriented professional to join our team.

Planning Technician will assist with performing zoning plan checks, preparing property reports, gathering, analyzing and presenting data on a variety of current and advanced planning activities and special planning programs, preparation of graphic materials, provide public assistance at the information counter and public correspondence.

Assistant Planner will provide information and assistance to developers, the business community, homeowners, architects, consultants, real estate personnel, consultants, contractors and the general public.

Associate Planner is responsible for complex plans examination, policy development and advanced report preparation.

Supplemental Information

Close date: Applications will be accepted until midnight on November 8, 2023, or until a sufficient amount of qualified applications are received.

Application Process: All interested applicants must submit a completed online city application. Applications will be screened carefully and selected applicants will be invited to undergo a Structured Panel Interview to evaluate their knowledge, skills and abilities. The appointing hiring authority will further review the job-related qualifications of applicants deemed eligible before making selection decisions. The selection process may be modified based on the needs of the City.

Pre-employment Process: Selected candidates must successfully pass a fingerprint check with the State Department of Justice, and a pre-placement physical including a drug test. Education and employment verification and reference check(s) will also be conducted.
