Job Description

About Raimi + Associates

Raimi + Associates is a multidisciplinary planning, policy, urban design, and applied research firm with offices in Berkeley and Los Angeles. We are advocates, collaborators, organizers, and pioneers committed to creating healthy and resilient places. To address the complexity of communities, R+A integrates interrelated disciplines — land use and urban design, sustainability and green building, climate action and adaptation, public health and equity, and community engagement — into planning, urban design, and applied research efforts.

About the Position

R+A is hiring urban planners with a range of experience from Entry Level to Senior Planners. The positions offer the opportunity to take on a range of responsibilities, including writing planning policy, conducting GIS and technical analysis, supporting community engagement, helping manage projects, and assisting with business development and proposal writing. Candidates should have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in urban planning and, for the Intermediate and Senior levels, have 3+ years of relevant work experience including familiarity with general plans, specific plans, zoning codes, and other planning documents. The ideal candidate should be an independent self-starter who enjoys a casual and fun work environment and is able to multi-task and remain organized and focused within the fast-paced demands of consulting.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting a wide variety of projects including general plans, specific plans, housing elements, zoning codes and stakeholder engagement processes.
  • Writing, research, and policy development for planning documents.
  • Preparing maps and graphics.
  • Assisting with preparation and facilitation of inclusive public engagement efforts.
  • Preparing proposals and supporting advance marketing.

Salary and Benefits

  • A competitive annual salary:
o Planner (Entry Level): $60,000 to $80,000, DOE
    o Intermediate Planner: $75,000 to $95,000, DOE
    o Senior Planner: $90,000 to $120,000, DOE
  • Annual bonus
  • Fully paid medical, dental, and vision
  • Professional development stipend and opportunities
  • Hybrid and flexible work environment

Required Experience / Skills / Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in planning or closely related field.
  • Relevant work experience in the planning field, including familiarity with general plans, specific plans, zoning codes, and other planning documents.
o Planner (Entry Level): 0-2 years of relevant work experience in the planning field.
o Intermediate Planner: Minimum of 3+ years of relevant work experience.
o Senior Planner: Minimum of 6+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis, mapping, and design.
  • Experience using GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, website design and other software needed to support planning projects.
  • Interest in and/or experience working on public engagement programs in diverse communities.
  • Fluency in spoken and/or written Spanish and knowledge of California land use planning is desired but not required.

Application Instructions

Send an email with a cover letter (may be in the body of the email), resume and, if relevant, a portfolio of work (10 pages max) to [email protected]. Please put “Planner Application” in the subject line.
