A nationally recognized City, Irvine has a population of over 310,000. This family-friendly city offers more than 16,000 acres of parks, sports fields, and dedicated open space and is home to the Great Park.

The Executive Director of Strategy & Development is a newly imagined position envisioned to oversee a dynamic and active Community Development Department while also leading global initiatives aimed at positioning Irvine to become the model of what a 21st-century municipal government can achieve. The portfolio of responsibilities includes overseeing approximately 120 employees and a $16.5 million FY 2023-24 General Fund budget. The ideal candidate will be a big-picture thinker looking to manage the department and lead innovative citywide solutions to this growing city’s challenges and opportunities.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

Competitive candidates will offer eight years of related professional experience in city planning, community development, or a closely related field and a Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree desired.

The City has the flexibility to fill this position at the Executive Director or Director level and will make that determination based on the needs of the organization and assessment of experience, qualifications and skillsets of the candidate selected. Salary range for Director level is $158,808 – $247,216; salary level for Executive Director level is $193,460 – $282,089. Competitive benefits.
