Under the general direction of the Chief, Office of Safety & System Management, a Supervising Transportation Planner, the incumbent serves as the Statewide Lead for the Safety and Operations Planning Funding, Legislation, and Policy functions. The incumbent has responsibility for the identification and analysis of federal and state policies, plans, funding programs, and pilots for new programs and projects that include safety planning, multi-modal operational improvements, and/or Transportation System Management and Operations (TSMO) efforts. The incumbent works cooperatively to coordinate with other planning functions such as corridor and system planning, travel forecasting and analysis, freight, sustainable communities, complete streets and active transportation, rail, mass transportation, aeronautics, and regional planning to ensure that staff involved in the Caltrans’ planning function are aware of current and proposed policies, legislation, and funding opportunities to support and enhance the implementation of the Safe System Approach and advanced technologies and TSMO strategies to improve statewide multi-modal transportation network safety and performance. The incumbent will also work with federal agencies, other divisions and districts, partner agencies, and safety and TSMO advocates to identify multi-jurisdictional current and proposed policies, legislation, and funding opportunities in support of the goal to implement the Safe Systems Approach and integrate advanced technologies and TSMO strategies into transportation projects in California.
