Job Description
Land Use Services is recruiting for Land Use Services Planner III positions who are responsible for a wide range of duties in urban and rural land use applications and studies. Duties include the Current Planning processing of development applications; research and review of technical reports, maps and plans and could include Advance Planning work related to the General Plan or special projects. Land Use Services Planner III also serves as a project leader.

The County offers two distinct benefit packages.
The traditional benefit option (TBO) is the County’s traditional plan and the
modified benefit option (MBO) is the County’s new enhanced wage option.

Traditional Benefits Option
- County subsidized medical and dental plan benefits. HMO and PPO options available
- 80 hours to start (up to 160 hours after 9 years of service) accruable paid vacation leave with up to 4 years prior service credit to determine accrual rate
- 11 days paid sick leave with unlimited accrual
- 14 days of paid holiday leave, including accruable floating holiday
- Generous County pension
- Eligible to participate in 457(b) retirement savings plan with County contribution
- County paid life insurance
- Education Reimbursement
- County contribution to Retirement Medical Trust Fund
Modified Benefits Option
- $1.75/hr wage differential above base pay
- County subsidized medical and dental plan benefits. HMO and PPO options available, including a low cost high deductible health plan (Blue Shield PPO Bronze Plan)
- Up to $25/pay period FSA match if enrolled in Blue Shield PPO Bronze Plan
- 180 hours of accruable Paid Time Off (PTO) to start (216 hours after 5 years of service) with up to 4 years prior service credit to determine accrual rate
- Generous County pension
- Eligible to participate in 457(b) retirement savings plan
- County paid life insurance: $35,000
- County contribution to Retirement Medical trust Fund if regular HMO or PPO Plans are selected
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
1) Background: Applicants must successfully pass a background check prior to appointment.
2) Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C driver license is required at time of appointment. Employees in this class may be required to use personal vehicles and show proof of automobile liability insurance. Mileage reimbursement is available.
Required Experience / Skills / Education
Minimum Requirements:
Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Environmental Science, Landscape Architecture, Geography, Engineering or a related field is required.
–AND–
Experience: Three (3) years of professional level environmental planning experience involving comprehensive environmental planning and site design.
Substitution: A Master’s degree in one of the required fields of education may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of land use planning and environmental analysis, with strong experience with a California public agency. Strong writing, critical thinking, and decision-making skills are essential.
