Job Description
Impact Sciences is seeking an Air Quality and Greenhouse Gas Specialist for our downtown Los Angeles office. Primary responsibilities include preparing air quality and greenhouse gas emissions inventory and mitigation, climate action planning, health risk assessments, environmental impact analysis and report preparation to support Impact Sciences environmental planning practice. Experience engaging with clients, people and organizations, as well as a thorough understanding of the current regulatory and technical air quality and climate change environment is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare air quality and GHG analyses and technical reports in support of CEQA and NEPA documentation for various public and private projects, including mixed use development projects, transportation infrastructure, institutional, recreation, and specific plans
- Prepare emissions estimates using computer models such as CalEEMod and MOVES and data sources such as EMFAC OFFROAD and AP-42
- Perform dispersion modeling using AERMOD, HARP, CAL3QHCR and similar tools
- Prepare health risk assessments
- Support and defend air quality and GHG analysis during public meetings
- Stay up to date with ongoing changes in federal, state, and applicable local regulations plans and policies affecting air quality and GHG analysis
Required Experience / Skills / Education
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s and/or advanced degree in Environmental or other Earth Sciences, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Atmospheric Science/Meteorology, Chemistry, Physics, or related subjects
- Experience preparing air quality and climate change impact analyses pursuant to CEQA/NEPA, climate action plans, and greenhouse gas inventories
- Experience preparing health risk assessments
- Experience with transportation projects in California
- Understanding of Caltrans, FHWA, and EPA environmental practice and requirements
- Knowledge, understanding and experience with air quality and climate change computer modeling software and methods (CalEEMod, AERMOD, HARP, EMFAC, CT-EMFAC, CALINE-4, CAL3QHCR, ISCST3, OFFROAD, MOVES, AP-42)
- Knowledge, understanding, and experience with state and federal air quality and climate change environmental case law, policy, and regulation (CEQA, NEPA, SB 32, Clean Air Act, General and Transportation Conformity)

- Strong quantitative and/or modeling skills a plus
