Job Description

PRINCIPAL ADMINISTRATIVE ANALYST – City of Santa Monica, CA. Salary: $ 102,636 – $ 126,708/yr.   Job Summary:  The Community and Cultural Services Principal Administrative Analyst is responsible for overseeing the Department’s $40 million annual budget including but not limited to managing the biennial budget preparation process, overseeing metric development and tracking, and tracking expenditures and revenues. The position is also responsible for the Department’s annual Capital Improvement Program including developing a multi-year plan for applying for funding to improve parks, open space and recreational facilities guided by the City’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The position collaborates with Public Works to advance the capital projects and leads the development and implementation of community engagement efforts for each project. This requires frequent evening and weekend events and activities including making presentations to Boards, Commissions, neighborhood organizations, and at community wide workshops and open houses. The position also spearheads policy initiatives related to parks and recreational facilities and supervises park planners. The position monitors grant opportunities and legislation related to parks and open space and applies for funding as opportunities arise. The position may represent the Department Director/Assistant Director at meetings and convening. NOTE: The current opening is in the Administration and Planning Division of the Community and Cultural Services Department. The eligible list that will be established as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill all Principal Administrative Analyst vacancies that occur in the City during the life of the list. Performs complex, professional level, highly responsible financial, analytical and administrative duties within an assigned department. Conducts, coordinates and prepares comprehensive administrative and budgetary analyses and reports. Supervises, organizes and reviews the work of assigned staff. 

Required Experience / Skills / Education

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, Public Policy, Accounting, Finance or a closely related field. Four years of recent, paid work experience performing professional level administrative analysis which has included budgeting and fiscal oversight responsibilities. At least two years of the recent work experience must have been at a supervisory or senior analyst level or above. One year of leading, coordinating and/or supervising the work of others, and successful completion of the City of Santa Monica’s Pre-Supervisory Academy may substitute for the required two years of supervisory experience. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C driver license.
