Position Description

The Climate Planning & Resilience Coordinator (CPRC) position reports to the Deputy Director (DD). The CPRC helps promote the long-term goals of the organization by performing programmatic assignments, such as policy research, project coordination, media and communications generation, and online and in-person outreach, as needed.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Assist in the execution of several key programs and partnerships, upholding the organization’s standard of excellence and reputation in all activities
  • Report to the Deputy Director and Climate Planning & Resilience Manager on a weekly basis and to debrief activities
  • Report to Deputy Director for annual review and performance evaluations
  • Curate, cultivate, and offer feedback on work activities

Programmatic

  • Support the Keep LA Cool Campaign, working from a bottom-up community level and a top-down policy level to increase climate resiliency in the City of LA’s community plans
    • Develop presentations, fact sheets, and toolkits on climate change impacts for several LA communities in order to raise public awareness on possible solutions
    • Participate in public meetings, tabling opportunities, and new avenues for community engagement for the community plans
    • Facilitate partnerships with government departments and researchers through ad hoc work groups to discuss climate adaptation strategies
    • Organize partnerships with key community organizations to create advocacy coalitions
    • Assist in the development of strategies for climate adaptation
    • Assist in the development of media about community plans
  • Support several climate planning and resilience projects such as:
    • Technical assistance for the California Climate Investment programs
    • Tracking implementation of SB 379, SB 1035, SB 1000, SB 1072 and other climate planning efforts and laws
    • Coordination of place-based planning projects and climate collaboratives in Southern California
    • Research on climate change adaptation measures (e.g. extreme heat, flooding, wildfire, and sea level rise) as well as climate mitigation measures
    • Memos on local and state policies for climate adaptation and mitigation
    • Attendance at policy meetings, conferences, and other events relating to climate adaptation and mitigation
  • Liaise with project-specific funders and partners, serving as a professional, public, and congenial representative of the organization in all activities
  • Assist in gathering and creating reporting materials to various grant-making organizations

Development / Communications

  • Assist with the annual gala and other functions where Climate Resolve is an organizer and/or large supporter
  • In collaboration with the Communications Manager, generate media and communications content related to project initiatives for public dissemination, including original content for newsletter, website, blogs, and social media, as needed

 

Required Experience / Skills / Education

Required

  • A Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two years’ experience in program coordination, preferably in the nonprofit or public sector
  • Knowledge and ability to communicate about climate, transportation, land use, and/or public health and planning standards
  • Proficiency at being collegial and collaborative, and forming and maintaining partnerships with diverse stakeholders and constituencies
  • Understanding of project coordination and budgeting functions
  • Effectively executing performance- and outcomes-based programmatic activity
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
  • Experience with engagement and incorporation of the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color, into the consideration of impacts and outcomes of a decision-making process
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple assignments, working well under pressure
  • Strong written, verbal communication, and research skills
  • Working knowledge of MS office and Google Apps products
  • Self-directed, flexible, and able to work under tight deadlines
  • A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work well on a team, as well as independently

Preferred 

  • Speaks a second language commonly spoken by Angelenos, such as Spanish, Korean, Tagalog, Mandarin, Japanese, Cantonese, or other
  • Working knowledge of project management tools such as Trello and Blackbaud CRM products
  • Working knowledge of communications and media platforms such as Canva, Mailchimp, Twitter, Facebook, and WordPress

This is a full-time position (40 hrs/wk) with a matching 401K contribution, medical benefits, and a dental/vision stipend. Salary offered is $55,000-$60,000 DOE.
