Job Description
The City of Palm Springs is seeking a Deputy City Manager of Community Development & Social Services. With a staff of 11 employees and a FY 2019/2020 budget of 3.5 million, the Department of Community and Economic Development administers community and social programs including affordable housing, homelessness, the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), federal grant funding to non-profit organizations benefiting low and moderate-income residents, as well as a home repair assistance program. Serving at the pleasure of the City Manager, the Deputy City Manager assumes full management responsibility for all department and division services and activities. Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to: developing and managing the community and economic development strategy for the City; managing continued efforts for social service programs and community development strategies including affordable housing and homelessness initiatives; overseeing the operations and implementation of a variety of public and social programs including the community development block grant program, senior housing repair program, sustainability programs, and public arts; and overseeing the development and administration of the department budget.
The annual salary is up to $200,390 annually DOE/DOQ. A 2.5% salary increase is scheduled for July 1, 2020. The City also offers an attractive benefits package including CalPERS retirement.
Required Experience / Skills / Education
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of increasingly responsible administrative economic development experience in municipal government, preferably in California and in an advanced management position with experience working with social service programs within the last 10 years and including 3 years of direct management of a Department, Division, or reporting relationship to a City Manager’s Office. A Master’s degree is preferred.
