Job Description

You’ve been working hard toward your degree and now you desire to put that knowledge into action. The City of Pomona is an exceptional place for learning, doing impactful work, and obtaining real-life experience to help you better prepare for a career in government planning. The Planning Division Intern will be directly immersed and involved with day to day planning activities at a municipal level. There will be varied exposure to office, field and interagency facets of planning. The intern will work directly with the Planning Division team.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
  • Current enrollment as a college/university sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student in an urban and regional planning program
  • Students that have completed courses related to urban and regional planning
Knowledge of: Windows based operating system, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and/or ArcGIS.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills;
  • Should be personable, motivated and a self-starter capable of working both individually and as part of a team;
  • Professional attitude, tact and courtesy necessary to deal with internal and external customers;
  • Attention to detail, good organization skills, and outstanding work ethic.
