Job Description
Associate Planner: performs professional work in the field of current and/or comprehensive planning; manages the processing of proposed development and/or affordable housing projects; and provides information and assistance to developers, the business community and the public on planning, housing, environmental and development related matters.
Senior Planner: supervises, assigns, reviews and participates in the work of professional and technical staff responsible for the review and processing of land use studies, affordable housing and development project applications; acts as project manager for technical and complex cases; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies, procedures and timelines; and performs the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
Required Experience / Skills / Education
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning, geography, public administration, environmental science or a related field.
Experience: Two years (Associate) of increasingly responsible experience in urban planning in current, comprehensive, housing or environmental planning; or four years (Senior) of urban or regional planning experience including one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory responsibility.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license is required. Possession of an AICP certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners is highly desirable.
