$7,202 – $9,220/month

THE SENIOR PLANNER performs complex professional work in the field of current or advanced planning and environmental analysis; supervises current or advanced planning projects; and performs related duties as assigned. This is an advanced journey level classification. Work in this classification is distinguished from that of an Associate planner by the greater complexity of assignments received and by the greater independence and scope of decision making with which the incumbent is expected to operate. This classification may act as the City Planner in his/her absence.

The selection process for Senior Planner will include a detailed review and appraisal of each candidate’s application. The most qualified applicants may be selected for an oral appraisal interview (weighted at 100%). Those candidates who successfully complete all phases by earning a minimum overall score of 70%, shall have their names placed on the Employment Eligibility List for Senior Planner. Eligibility lists are generally valid for one year. Once the list is established the Planning Division may conduct follow-up assessments. The prospective candidate must successfully complete a thorough background review.

Required Experience / Skills / Education
Qualifications:
• Four years of increasingly responsible experience in urban planning with a concentration in current planning and/or advanced planning. One year of supervisory experience, and extensive experience with a California city, are desirable.
• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major work in urban or regional planning, architecture, or a related field considered useful in city planning.
• California Driver’s License.
