Job Description
This position oversees the Planning and Development Agency and plays an instrumental role to ensure that County parks, trails, and buildings are well planned, designed, constructed, and preserved; socially and culturally relevant; equitably located; physically accessible; and safe. The Planning Division oversees master planning, environmental compliance, land management, sustainability and trails planning, while Development Division oversees design and construction project management. Together, Planning and Development Agency provides essential mission-led guidance and technical support for the Department and leads efforts to identify and implement sound strategies that promote positive, equity-focused, environmentally just and sustainable results.
Required Experience / Skills / Education
Four years of experience managing an agency, organization or firm in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Natural Resources Management, Engineering, Environmental Science Planning Field or a closely related field.
A valid California Class “C” driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative transportation method when needed to carry out essential job-related functions.
Desirable Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college with a master’s degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Natural Resources Management, Engineering, Environmental Science Planning Field or a closely related field.
Strong writing, presentation and public speaking skills.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills in managing operations, people, and change; and a proven ability to achieve desired organizational services and outcomes. The candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and political savvy to open pathways to effective partnerships with other government agencies, elected officials, community groups, and the public. Additionally, the successful candidate will present a proven track record of building dedicated and engaged teams of experienced professionals empowered to provide outstanding services to local communities
