Job Description

Under immediate supervision of the Planning Manager, the Planning Aide performs a variety of customer service, clerical and paraprofessional duties in support of the Planning Division; essential duties include processing permit applications, preparing maps, compiling program data, and assisting with the development of program graphics, pictorials, reports, and tables; prepares maps and illustrations for city planning reports; adds corrections and modifications to existing maps; drafts and maintains zoning maps, subdivision control maps, and other maps and charts showing regulations of property or developments. The Planning Aide must be able to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; understand and follow oral and written directions as provided; create and edit a variety of documents; and answer public inquires in person or by phone regarding zoning, planning and subdivisions and performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

High school diploma or GED equivalent.  One year (1) of increasingly responsible clerical, administrative, record keeping, and/or customer service experience.

Possess a valid California Class “C” Driver’s License.  Must maintain a satisfactory driving record throughout employment with the City.

Desirable Qualifications
Any of the following are deemed desirable qualifications for this recruitment:

Experience working in local government is desirable.

Completion of college coursework applicable to a BA/BS in urban planning or related field.

Completion of a planning internship with a local government agency.
