Job Description

 

The Position

The GCCOG is seeking a full time Associate Planner to engage in, and serve, the four targeted program areas undertaken by the COG:  Air Quality/Climate, Transportation, Homelessness and Housing, and Economic Development.  Duties include assisting the executive director and other staff with: managing grant funded projects and consultants (primarily related to climate, air quality, and energy); arranging/organizing COG committee meetings and others; supporting regional transportation and other plan updates; monitoring regional planning committees; reporting to the COG Board and supporting its activities;  evaluating technical impacts of programs and projects; assisting member jurisdictions with planning issues, and in accessing funding; and other duties as needed.  The candidate will report to the Director of Regional Development and may frequently interact with the Executive Director.

The Person

An ideal candidate will have a fundamental understanding of local government planning and operations as well as applicable state and federal grant programs and planning practices, procedures, legislation and regulations. Demonstrable skills will include:  gathering, organizing, and analyzing data and information; skill with GIS software; and ability to use modern computer applications including the Microsoft Office suite, and cloud-based data storage platforms. Grant writing experience will also be highly desirable.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

Desirable Qualifications

In order to be considered for this position, applicants must have a combination of education and experience equivalent to that outlined below:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree with major course work in planning, including transportation, regional planning, environmental and/or climate action planning, or a related field OR a satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the knowledge of, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the job.
  • Excellent writing/editing, research and analysis (qualitative and quantitative) and communication skills.
  • Working effectively and collaboratively as an important part of a small team, and establishing and maintaining harmonious and cooperative working relationships with staff and a wide variety of people is required.
  • Ability to take initiative, be a can-do problem solver, and be detail oriented, while remaining flexible.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to place the highest priority on supporting and meeting the needs of our Member Jurisdictions – the generally small, and often under resourced cities we serve.ExperienceOne to four years relevant experience.Salary

    Annual Salary Range, (DOQ/E): $68,128 – $83,200

    Terms

    Full time, 9/80 schedule available with benefits.  The position is based in the Gateway Cities COG office in Paramount, but employees can negotiate a part-time work from home schedule.
