The City of Hillsboro is recruiting for a Senior Planner for the Community Development Department’s Long Range Planning Section. Are you a visionary individual with critical and creative thinking skills to bring to a high-growth community? Come lead planning and policy projects in the most diverse large city in Oregon, an economic engine of the state connected by light-rail to the Portland region.

 Salary Range: $84,116 – $110,691 Annually

About This Opportunity

In this role, you will perform advanced project management and communications work for the Community Development Department’s Planning Division. You will have the opportunity to lead a wide range of Long-Range Planning Section projects and policy initiatives. Examples include updating a Housing Needs Analysis and Buildable Lands Inventory to support a range of additional housing near Hillsboro’s Silicon Forest jobs, and leading implementation of  our award-winning Comprehensive Plan. Other examples include managing community planning for new residential and employment growth areas and pursuing equitable redevelopment of existing Hillsboro neighborhoods and corridors. Duties to also include researching and developing planning policy, and elevating meaningful public engagement to all, especially historical marginalized community members.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Serve as systems thinker who thrives on seeking to understand and respond to the opportunities in our community.
  • Provide project management for developing plans and policy initiatives; defines project scope; determines schedules; coordinates across departments, agencies and stakeholders; provides technical guidance and review; prepares and presents recommendations.
  • Lead and support assigned staff, including reviewing, and editing staff reports.
  • Respond to inquiries and complex information requests regarding studies, plans and other various related requests.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of plans, studies, reports, ordinances, amendments; provides recommendations and conveys complex technical information.
  • Coordinate and implement community engagement efforts; facilitates presentations of sensitive issues to the general public.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

Acceptable Experience and Training

Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 5 years of experience in planning, housing, public policy, or related field. The City will consider any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. Individuals with broad backgrounds and skill sets are encouraged to apply.

 Licensing/Certifications

Depending on assignment, some positions may require:

  • Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.
