Job Description

Nature of Work

Assists the Planning Director with the coordination of a large, municipal urban planning program, including the coordination, development, and effectuation of the Miami Comprehensive Neighborhood Plan (MCNP) and Land Development Regulations (LDR), amendments to the MCNP and LDR, the creation and review of site plans, drawings, and reports for the City of Miami.

Essential Functions

Work includes but is not limited to: functioning as Division head and supervising activities of professional city planners to include areas of general planning, land development, planning research and analysis (GIS), and community planning; assisting and participating in the development of programs for compiling and analyzing data on economic, social and physical factors affecting land use, and for preparing graphic and narrative reports on data; overseeing the preparation of complex planning studies and recommending measures to control and guide the City’s development and renewal; coordinating federal and state grants-in-aid; developing the division’s budget and assisting with department’s budget; attending meetings representing the department director; preparing activity reports and plans for future development; and performing related work, as required. Reports to the Department Director.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree in City, Regional or Urban Planning and thorough four (4) years progressively responsible experience at the level of a Chief or Principal Planner.
