Job Description
Studio One Eleven is looking for a bright and motivated Senior Urban Designer to join our team!
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Urban Designer will work on and coordinate the development of deliverables on a range of urban design and interdisciplinary projects. This will include creating urban design guidelines and public realm plans and designs, generating maps, infographics, drawings and diagrams, reports, project branding, collateral, presentations, and outreach materials.
The ideal candidate will have an understanding of good urban design principles, strong verbal and visual communication skills, ability to write clearly and concisely, as well as experience with executing outreach efforts. The Senior Urban Designer may also be called upon to assist with managing projects, and help solve problems encountered independently, or with guidance from senior team members for more complex issues.
We are looking for applicants who are good team players, communicative, flexible, and aligned with the mission and values of Studio One Eleven. This is a full time position based in our Long Beach office, with the option for flexible/remote work.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Produce urban design drawings, documents and exhibits, as well as community engagement materials

Collaborate across studios effectively on design projects

Contribute to maintaining and developing the strong visual brand of Studio One Eleven’s work

Oversee the implementation and facilitate understanding of design and graphic standards with designers and interns

Facilitate design coordination processes between S111 and clients, governmental agencies and consultants
-
Coordinate research efforts as needed in support of design goals
-
Provide verbal presentations of design progress and written narratives
-
Support senior staff in managing projects, schedules and client communications
-
Support senior staff with business development efforts including proposal writing
Required Experience / Skills / Education
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in architecture, planning or urban design
-
3 – 5 years of professional experience in urban design or planning/architectural design with a focus on urbanism.

Knowledge of urban design plans, planning and zoning frameworks, creating drawings and graphic presentations and writing reports

Understanding of architectural design and site planning is a plus

Proficiency in SketchUp/Rhino, AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop) required, as well as their application in developing and presenting design documents

Proficiency in sketching and GIS software preferred

Effective English communication skills, conversational and written, for ongoing project collaboration and documentation
