Job Description

The Position: The Housing Program Coordinator is a full-time position in the Community Development Department and will have a close working relationship with the City Manager’s Office. This position is focused on developing and implementing the City’s new affordable housing programs, staying current with state housing legislation and working with planners to implement numerous programs in the adopted 6th cycle Housing Element.
Reports to/Supervises: Receives general supervision from the Planning Manager.
Your Role: The primary responsibility of this position is to increase the supply of market rate and affordable housing. This includes pursuing housing grants and working with developers, citizens, and non-profit and for-profit entities on residential development projects. This position will also evaluate properties by reviewing factors such as geographic location, environmental impacts, financial feasibility, land-use codes, and community support to determine suitability for lower income housing and community developments. Additionally, the incumbent in this position will serve as the staff liaison to the Housing and Human Services Committee and will attend and participate in public meetings and presentations before the City Council and Planning Commission.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination demonstrating the ability to effectively and successfully perform the duties of the position is considered qualifying. A typical combination is as follows:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in public administration, urban planning, social sciences, or a closely related field.
Experience: Six (6) years of professional experience in business analysis with at least three (3) years in housing and/or land-use. Experience in local government is preferred.
License/Certificate Requirements: Due to the performance of some field duties, which may require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid California Driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is required.
