Willdan currently has openings for an Associate Planners in the Los Angeles County area.
Responsibilities:
- Receives, reviews, investigates and processes various plans and applications for subdivisions, housing and commercial developments, general and specific plan amendments, environmental clearances, variances, and use permits; determines conformity with laws, policies, regulations, and procedures; recommends approval, identifies problems and alternatives.
- Provides information and assistance to developers, property owners and the general public regarding provisions of the jurisdictional Zoning Code and other planning laws, policies and regulations related to the submission of plans, processing of applications and implementation requirements.
- Leads planning projects such as CUP and Design Review applications.
- Monitors status of development applications from acceptance to issuance of final permit and conducts periodic reviews of conditional permits, variances, minor deviations, design reviews, and other planning entitlements.
- Gathers and evaluates data, assists with the review, development or revision of various elements of the jurisdictional General Plan, environmental impact reports and negative declarations, plans, ordinances, and other policies and procedures.
- Provides assistance to higher level planners, on an as-needed basis, in the areas of research, data collection and preparation of reports and recommendations regarding land use, zoning, urban design, population trends, transportation, housing, redevelopment and community service needs.
- Performs plan check reviews of commercial, industrial, public, and residential development plans for conformance with development standards and project approval.
- Conducts field surveys and investigations related to planning and zoning projects or requests.
- Ensures implementation of the provisions of the jurisdictional Municipal Code and other municipal regulations as they apply to planning matters.
- Prepares and assembles maps, tables, charts, and technical reports on planning projects. Ensures that reports are prepared in accordance with policy and practices; presents technical and administrative reports and studies; prepares written correspondence, as necessary.
- May prepare and present material for oral and graphic presentation to jurisdictional boards and commissions, and community groups.
- May act as liaison with other agencies, departments, and planning sections.
Required Experience / Skills / Education
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a related field;
- Experience in preparing and processing CEQA documents;
- 3 – 5 yrs. in professional level land use and environmental planning;
- 3 or more years of experience working with a city or county, in current and/or advanced planning;
- Thorough knowledge of principals of urban planning and development;
- Methods and techniques of project management; and
- Strong written and oral communication skills and experience in presentations before the Planning Commissions and/or City Councils.
