Job Description

Page & Turnbull, one of California’s first architecture and cultural resources firm to focus its practice on historic preservation, is looking for architectural historians/preservation planners who are passionate about reimagining cultural resources for the way we live today. Our projects include developing design guidelines for Eichler-designed homes, preparing the Santa Barbara African American Historic Context Statement, and writing Historic Resource Evaluations for multiple property types. We believe that every community has stories to tell and, through our passion and understanding our history and architectural history, we believe we’re the firm to uncover them.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION IS IMPORTANT

We strive to have a meaningful impact on historic places in California and beyond. With your research ability, outstanding communication skills, and knowledge of National Register criteria for evaluation and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, you will help us produce exceptional deliverables. You’ll be working directly with a talented ten-person Cultural Resources Studio team and often collaborate with the Architecture and Preservation Technology studios.  You’ll immediately work on an exciting variety of historic projects encompassing a range of size and property types.

The Nuts & Bolts

  • Perform digital and traditional research.
  • Visit sites and document existing conditions.
  • Survey and evaluate important historic places.
  • Prepare a variety of reports and studies.
  • Review architectural project drawings and recommend improvements that align with historic preservation best practices.
  • Enhance projects through GIS mapping and clear illustrations.

Salary ranges from $68,000 to $75,000 annually.

 

Required Experience / Skills / Education

The Position at a Glance

We are hiring at our Los Angeles office, though we work throughout California. We are looking for an Architectural Historian/Preservation Planner with a graduate degree in architectural history, historic preservation, or related field; comparable expertise is acceptable as well. Applicants must have at least 3 years of professional experience in the field. Project review and/or experience applying the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards preferred. Architectural Historian/Preservation Planners support a variety of project types including Historic Resource Evaluations/Assessments, Historic Context Statements, Historic Resource Surveys, Project Impact Analyses, Historic American Building Survey (HABS) projects, Cultural Resource chapters of CEQA Environmental Impact Reports, NHPA Section 106 Consultation services, Federal Tax Certification Documentation, and architectural design/entitlements consultation.
