Associate/Senior Planner – Contract – Part Time

Job Description

Civex is seeking a part-time, contract based Associate and/or Senior Planner based in Southern California to manage a variety of long-range/advanced planning projects. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, highly motivated, has superior writing and analysis skills, and passionate about assisting communities with achieving their goals.

Under direction of the Principal, the Associate or Senior Planner will be the project manager or provide direct support to the project manager. This role performs complex professional planning duties and/or leads supervision to support the implementation of client projects. This includes a variety of assignments, including but not limited to in-depth research and analysis, report writing, and public outreach to contribute to the successful completion of client projects. This role may frequently work concurrently on multiple projects. This role reports to the assigned Project Manager; if acting as the Project Manager, this role reports to the Principal. Our team frequently works with other esteemed firms and the role may be assigned to function as a subconsultant to another firm and/or collaborate with another firm. This role may perform other functions as assigned.

Assignments will generally be focused on long-range planning and applicants should have specific experience in at least one of the following areas:

Housing Elements and/or RHNA
Local Coastal Program updates
General Plan Element Updates
CA Coastal Act Compliance
Climate/Resiliency Planning
Comprehensive Zoning/Municipal Code updates
Regional Planning
CEQA Compliance
Other Long-Range Planning activities

You’d be a great addition to our team if:

You are detail oriented and have superior writing, formatting, and proofreading skills.
You’re a skilled researcher and have a zest for analyzing and compiling research and data as needed by each project.
You’re able to attend community workshops and City Council/Planning Commission meetings that may occur on weekday nights and/or weekends.
You can produce final project documents and products by stated deadlines.
You’re a team player that thrives on great communication.
You are proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat; experience with InDesign is desired but not required.
You have a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in urban or regional planning, or closely related field.
You have a reliable means of transportation to and from work, and to perform site visits and attend meetings.

The pay range for the Associate Planner position is $38 – $56 per hour, dependent upon experience and other relevant factors. The pay range for the Senior Planner position is $46 – $68 per hour, dependent upon experience and other relevant factors. The position is part-time and contract-based with no benefits. The position is flexible remote with required attendance at in-person community workshops, public hearings, and other meetings when necessary. The applicant must be a Southern California resident at the time of appointment with legal work authorization. Relocation benefits are not available.
