Congratulations to David Salazar, FAICP and the Class of 2020 College of Fellows!

Induction to the AICP College of Fellows is the highest honor the American Institute of Certified Planners bestows upon a member, recognizing an individual’s significant and transformational improvements to the field of planning and the communities they serve.

APA Los Angeles congratulates member David Salazar, FAICP, a native Angeleno who began his career in city planning and has 29 years of facilities planning and design and construction experience in public and private universities and community colleges. He holds degrees from California State University, Long Beach; California State Polytechnic
University, Pomona; and Claremont Graduate University. His long career in Southern California campus planning includes positions with the Los Angeles Community College District, the California State University System, Claremont Graduate University and the San Bernardino Community College District. David Salazar, FAICP
Full Bio

David Salazar, a native Los Angeleno, began his career in city planning and has a combined 29 years of facilities planning and design and construction experience in public and private universities and community college. He holds a Bachelor degree in Sociology from California State University, Long Beach; a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; and an Executive MBA from Claremont Graduate University.

David’s most recent position (now retired) was Chief Facilities Executive for the Los Angeles Community College District. During his employment with the California State University System, he held the positions of Associate Vice President for Physical Planning and Facilities Management at California State University, Long Beach; Director of Campus Planning and Development at California State University, Monterey Bay and University Facility Planner at the Chancellor’s Office. He has also served as Director of Facilities Management at Claremont Graduate University and Executive Director of Facilities, Planning, and Administrative Services at San Bernardino Community College District.

In addition to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Certified Planners, David is a member of the Society of College and University Planners and California Planning Roundtable. He served as lecturer in the Urban and Regional Planning Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona for several years. He resides in Long Beach, California with his family, where he currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Long Beach-Los Altos YMCA and the Board of Directors for Centro CHA of Long Beach.
