Administrative Intern – Transportation Planning

Job Description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Under supervision, the Administrative Intern will:
  • Maintain and update the Port’s traffic count database
  • Assist in data management and analysis, data visualization, and GIS applications
  • Assist the planning of roadway, bicycle and rail facilities within the Port
  • Assist in the review and preparation of transportation studies for environmental documents
  • Conduct complex analysis and provide input in the transportation section of environmental documents
  • Conduct or review transportation analyses prepared by consultants for Port facilities, rail, highway, bicycle and other transportation related projects
  • Support and assist the development of traffic management programs and initiatives
  • Assist with addressing regulations, guidance, and protocols under the California Environmental and Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
  • Assist in the review/analysis of regional transportation studies/issues pertaining to outside agencies, such as SCAG, LACMTA, Caltrans and USDOT
  • Conduct or assist in the review/analysis of transportation issues
  • Conduct or assist in the analysis of regulatory and legislative issues
  • Perform other related duties as required

Required Experience / Skills / Education

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university at the graduate level OR a recent graduate in the following disciplines listed with plans to enter a graduate program. A major in Transportation Planning/ Engineering or Urban and Regional Planning/Policies or closely related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of transportation engineering/planning principles and methodologies
  • Customer service experience
  • Writing skills and experience
  • Knowledge of the Port industry is a plus
  • Valid California Driver’s License in good standing is required prior to appointment
