Job Description
PlaceWorks is seeking an experienced urban designer/planner to join, and assist in leading the Community, Planning & Design Team in our Los Angeles office or Santa Ana office. We are looking for individuals with 8+ years of urban design/planning experience as well as project management experience with a variety of public and private sector planning projects, who also have a genuine interest in actively pursuing marketing and business development opportunities, managing client relationships, and overseeing and mentoring junior staff. The ideal candidate is creative, self-starting, outgoing, collaborative, and passionate about helping shape and improve communities through their work. Typical projects of our urban design/planning practice include urban infill development, comprehensive planning, visioning, downtown revitalization, transit-oriented development, streetscape and parks design, mixed-use development, and large-scale master plans, as well as community engagement.

- You’re skilled and comfortable with public speaking and presenting—you’ll be expected to represent PlaceWorks at job interviews and to coordinate, present, and facilitate discussions at community workshops.
- You have strong writing and proofreading skills and are detail-oriented.
- You are genuinely interested in working with junior staff and overseeing workflow and successful project execution.
- You have strong leadership and management abilities to grow, mentor, and lead staff members.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Masters’ degree in urban or regional planning, architecture, urban design, or closely related field.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Are able to attend community workshops which may occur on weekday nights and weekends.
- Have a current and valid driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance, and acceptable MVR to drive on Company business for performing site visits and attending meetings.
We are flexible in considering candidates with greater experience than those specified above. Salary range and title will be commensurate with experience.
