PLANNING INTERN
Salary Range: $13.22 – $17.19 Per Hour
(Part-time/No Benefits)

The Planning Intern will assist in daily operations and
perform entry level tasks involving many activities of the
Planning Department. Duties may include interacting with
the public and assisting staff at the planning counter,
performing research, conducting special studies or
projects on planning and land use issues, and assisting
with GIS projects. May conduct field investigations, gather
data and provide information to the public regarding
zoning ordinances and zoning code interpretations.
Successful performance as an intern could lead to a full
time Planning Technician position.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in land
use planning, especially in a local government, coastal
setting. A broad general understanding of planning
practices, zoning and site planning are helpful. The
ideal candidate will be curious, resourceful, reliable and
have initiative. Customer service experience is highly
desirable. The candidate should be able to effectively
interact with the public in a positive and helpful manner
and to handle multiple projects while working
comfortably in a fast-paced team environment.

 

Required Experience / Skills / Education

This position is open to those who are presently enrolled in or have completed a degree in Planning, Public Policy, Geography, Environmental Policy/Science, Architecture, or related fields. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License and have a satisfactory driving record.
