Through advocacy, influence and engagement, Central City Association (CCA) enhances Downtown’s vibrancy and increases investment in the region. Since our founding in 1924, we have produced meaningful results for our members, Downtown, and the greater Los Angeles region. We represent the interests of 400 businesses, trade associations and nonprofit organizations that together employ more than 350,000 people in the County. We are one of the most effective conveners for the community and help to bridge the gap between the private and public sectors. We provide a high level of service to our membership, which includes: policy advocacy, access to thought-leaders, networking at CCA events, support at public hearings, as well as branding and marketing opportunities.
The Associate Director of Economic Development is a new position for CCA that is a result of our recent strategic planning process. This plan identified economic development as a key interest area for our members and an important asset for the organization. Given CCA’s small team dynamic, the ideal candidate for this position is a hard-working team player with a commitment to our mission. Candidates must be willing to take initiative and ownership in cultivating this new role, while also being able to work collaboratively with the entire CCA Team and assume a customer-service mentality with members.

TITLE: Associate Director of Economic Development
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Public Policy
OBJECTIVE: Working with VP of Public Policy, Director of Public Policy and Director of Communications, the Associate Director of Economic Development will partner to implement CCA’s advocacy agenda. They will play a key role in developing strategies to make Downtown Los Angeles an attractive place for employers, residents and visitors. They will maintain a high level of member engagement and involvement in economic development matters.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Support the economic development policy agenda of CCA by fostering connections between businesses and city, county and state leaders.
• Enhance Downtown’s economic development network by tracking real estate transactions and new development.
• Provide support for CCA member development projects at public hearings and provide written and oral testimony.
• Track retail industry trends and performance.
• Cultivate CCA’s Economic Development Committee by identifying and scheduling speakers and varied topics.
• Manage local and state public policy related to economic development.
• Arrange opportunities for members of the business community, including the international business community to engage with city, county and state leaders to share knowledge and take action.
• Develop a network of contacts at agencies throughout city, county and state government.
• Provide support, including administrative support, related to visiting business delegations.
• Manage day-to-day administration and record-keeping related to partnerships, including data entry,
a strategic relationship database and maintaining relevant contacts.
• Maintain Development Yearbook, which profiles CCA member projects.
• Partner with Strategic Relations department on Small Business Council.
• Assist with drafting monthly reports for CCA Board meetings.
• Draft correspondence to convey CCA’s positions on public policy issues, and drafts form letters to be used in advocacy efforts.
• Respond to member requests and assist in resolution of member issues.
• Coordinate with other organizations, associations and interest groups as needed to develop effective coalitions.
• Shares information and achieves united action.
• Any other duties as assigned.
Required Experience / Skills / Education
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in real estate brokerage and/or economic development policy.
• Experience in developing and managing relationships involving diverse groups and individuals, particularly as it relates to business or economic development.
• Knowledge of key players and constituencies in state, county and/or city of LA government.
• Strong relationship management skills.
• Strong facilitation skills.
• Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently, actively seek collaboration, and support colleagues in their work.
• Excellent planning and organizational skills and ability to effectively juggle multiple projects.
• Results-oriented and have a demonstrated ability to understand and absorb new information rapidly.
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred.
• Minimum of three to five years of relevant work experience.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
